Wet Weather To Start The Weekend

By Carol Erickson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) ? When it comes to weather, first and foremost, remember that it is early February.

Winter and fast changing weather conditions are always expected.

Take Friday as a perfect example. A storm in two pieces right now ? one part far north in the upper midwest and the other thru the deep south in Texas/Louisana ? shows intentions of phasing together and traveling east. Those two pieces of energy come together with a surface low forming off the North Carolina coast.

That means the system could have moisture, wind, and variable temperatures. Some of those temperatures will be cold enough for a lot of snow and some just mild enough for rain.

The computer models for our area show a lot of differences at this point ? from a rainy Friday to a snowy Friday night and Saturday morning. Some models want to dump a lot of snow here in the Delaware Valley and others say no way (in the way models say no way to snow ? warmer temperatures).

The general consensus puts the bulk of heavy snow into New England on Friday and Saturday.

We expect temperatures here to be in the low 40?s when the bulk of the precipitation arrives on Friday. That would mean rain, but as the low passes off the coast, colder air gets drawn in. That could change it to snow overnight into Saturday morning.

This system will be watched for further changes in track and timing, which would impact amounts and precipitation type.
